Suki is making double profit from farming and kitchen garden
Suki Kujur, 38 years old, started a kitchen garden with proper guidance and techniques with the help of Ekta Mahila Manch. Before Ekta Mahila Manch interaction she had no proper knowledge of kitchen gardens and organic farming techniques to grow vegetables and make profits from them. Her main occupation was farming and labour work. She and her family used to go outside work as labourers. Sometimes they had to go to Raigarh District which is 14 km away from their home for work to earn money. Due to a lack of marketing knowledge and best practices in farming they had to grow a couple of vegetables and sell them in the market for less profit or sometimes loss. She had to go out of town in search of work but sometimes they did not get any work and returned empty-handed. She was unable to send her kids to school for education. After many efforts, she started to participate in Ekta Mahila Manch Village meetings and raised her doubts and questions regarding farming and kitchen gardens. Various methods and mechanisms were instructed by the State Coordinator Bharti Behan who requested to apply them to farming practices to double her profit. After many training and meetings, she understood the method and mechanisms and she started to apply them to farming and started to grow many vegetables on her land. Moreover, she started to share the same knowledge with the group and sell those vegetables in the market and make money. Now, she is growing various vegetables and selling them in the market with an Rs.3000-4000 profit by which her family migration has been reduced and the kids started to go to school. Ekta Mahila Manch’s effort made her life beautiful, happy and successful.
