Sejal’s Small Kitchen Garden
Sejal, 19 from Dundi, Jabalpur (M.P.). She is studying B.A. She has two sisters and one brother. They are landless, and her family’s source of income is labour work. They make a total of Rs 40,000 per year. Her father had struggled a lot to run the family. Sometimes her family had no money for her education and to buy Kirana and vegetables to fulfill daily needs. Also, she had no money to pay for the bus fare to go to college. Sejal’s father is working as a labourer and their income is not sufficient to fulfill essential needs and her study.
When the District Coordinator Jabalpur Vineeta Adivasi regularly held meetings in the Gram Panchayat and told about the Kitchen garden or the solution to other problems, then Radha Ji(Sejal’s mother) told her about the meetings and advised her to go to Ekta Mahila Manch meeting and learn something. She did so and learned about kitchen garden in detail and now she has a small garden at her home.
In the kitchen garden, they grow vegetables: Brinjal, Sam, Methi, Spinach, ladyfinger, Pumpkin, Radish, Coriander, and chili. The situation is gradually improving, in this way she has to buy very less vegetables from the market and sell the vegetables in the market, due to which she earns ₹ 100 per day and her monthly income has increased.
Now, she is paying her bus fare by herself and continuing her studies.
